Located on the campus of Oceana High School in Pacifica, California, the Oceana High School Garden is a community-supported school garden. Started by Oceana students and staff, the garden is an outdoor classroom for hands-on learning and a place to educate and engage members of the school and greater community. The garden aides students in completion of their community service requirement and achieving the Oceana School Wide Outcomes.
The Garden is a completely volunteer effort. Volunteer projects include working with plants, renewable energy, irrigation systems, landscape construction and sustainable agriculture. Garden volunteers gain work skills and build community while learning about food and the importance of environmental stewardship. The Garden is enhanced by our unique partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. This partnership provides a diverse and holistic opportunity for volunteers to learn about both habitat restoration and organic gardening.
Oceana High School continues to integrate the garden into all aspects of its curriculum. Going forward, we plan to expand student and class participation and active gardening projects.
